Buick V6 was 11: 1 compression, high energy ignition and turns 5000 RPM. Taking into account the specifications you'll need to retard the timing for high compression, low rpm and high energy ignition. Comparing the characteristics of the engine against the chart, you can find the benchmark time use. Engines with a combination of elements from both columns will take time, which is set in the middle of the range.
Obviously, a full technical explanation of the correct ignition will be very difficult. The best way to find a suitable ignition curve for your engine should use the ignition time factors in the chart as a guide and compare it with a graphic in Figure 2 until you find a suitable curve. When choosing your curve in advance, use the detonation (engine ping) as an indicator of too much in advance and reduce power as an indicator of too little in advance.
TIPS FOR CHOOSING A CURVE IN ADVANCE
• Use as much of the initial advance as you can without encountering excessive Starter engine load or kick back.
• Start the centrifugal advance slightly above idle rpm.
• The starting point of the curve centrifugal advance is controlled by the fixed length and tension of the springs.
• How quickly comes centrifugal advance (slope) is controlled by the stiffness of the spring. Intensification of Spring, the slower ahead of the curve.
• The amount of the advance is controlled by the sleeve. The bigger the bushing, the smaller the amount of advance
The following procedures are for PN 8551 Distributor. Centrifugal advance mechanism consists of weights, springs, cam and stop the bushing. The Distributor can be used in a wide variety of applications, changing only springs and promotion of stop pin bushing. There is no need to change the weight or moving the cam.
SELECT ADVANCE SPRINGS
Speed, or how fast comes down payment depends on the type of springs that are installed on the Distributor. Distributors of MSD is equipped with two heavy Silver Springs installed. This will give you a slow advance curve. Parts kit contains two additional sets of springs that can be used in accordance with advance curve for a particular application. See the spring combination chart (fig. 2) for combinations that can be achieved.
