Audi TT Timing Belt replacement
Tools we recommend include: Bentley Publishers Audi TT Service Manual (book or CD), torque wrench (3/8, 5? drive recommended), floor Jacks (2 minimum), Jack stands (3 minimum), the tool set including wrenches/ratchet/extensions/metric sockets (various lengths)/hex bit sockets/torx drivers/Allen wrenches (hex key), Wheel wedges (2), small clamps and a digital camera to document your progress in case you need to go back and reviewhow it was installed originally.
Recommended supplies include: 3 litre VW/Audi G-012 coolant Antifreeze loading, 3 litres of distilled water, ½-gallon size clear plastic pitcher (for a mixture of distilled water and coolant), 1 Litre of VW/Audi G-004 Power Steering Fluid (much less necessary), Loctite high temperature Threadlocker, Bucket and hose to drain the coolant (hose ID ca. 10 mm), Shop towels/rags, plastic bags, Zip ties Rubber Stoppers (for plug coolant and power steering hoses), marking Pen (Red China marker), and an abrasive Pad (ScotchBrite).
A Timing Belt replacement kit was purchased with all the necessary spare parts from Dieselgeek.com. In the kit included a new Timing Belt, tensioning roller, inner belt tensioning dampener, Engine Mount bolts and water pump with metal impeller.
Step 1: preparation.
Check in preparation the car is on a level surface with enough space to place a floor jack on both sides. Engage the emergency brake and Shock the rear wheels. Carefully raise the vehicle, and place it on Jack stands. Do not attempt this if you are unsure of how to safely lift the vehicle or properly place the Jack stands! Note: the removal of the right-front wheel (in step 4) is easier if the wheel bolts is relaxed to just prior to its termination vehicle. Bentley Service Manual contains information about lifting vehicle and working under the vehicle of pages 03-11 through 03-13.
Step 2: Remove the engine Covers and free Pipe. Remove the plastic cover over the engine and coolant reservoir. Bentley Manual page 03-15. Remove the free Pipe, so you have easy access to Timing Belt cover and Engine Mount underneath. Bentley Manual page 15a-12.
