Audi/VW VKM 31034 Technical Bulletin
When servicing accessory drive system, it is very important to change the skewer and drive belt. With SKF, you get a belt, which is the same length as OE (Selenium is sold separately), which reduces the risk of breaking further down the road. Skewer (VKM 31034) contains two parts – an idler plastic and a spring mounted together.
VKM 31034 System layout
The above layout diagram shows that all the components (all PS and AC) operated by auxiliary staff the belts. Therefore we strongly recommend mounting the exact OE belt length when servicing auxiliary drive system!
VKM 31034 fitting instructions
1) Skewer comes in a low voltage position without a locking pin or tools.
2) Install skewer on generator bracket – ensure the tab locking locates for proper installation. Tighten that restraint bolt to 45 Nm.
3) provide the skewer to its max voltage positioning and lock this position with a locking tool or pins.
4) Mount belt onto idler plastic and removing the tool locking to apply voltage to the system. Belt length is very important at this stage as it indicates the overall system voltages. Always fit OE length belt to avoid future splits!
5) If you want to check if the correct voltage has been applied, verify the skewer Guide (as shown opposite).
Remember: the correct voltage in VKM 31034 are specified by using the exact length of the belt.
These steps must be handled with caution, as very high voltages are used in the system. Serious injury can result if not handled properly!
OE belt length is key to ensuring good quality repair and performance from the auxiliary system! Wrong belt length (shorter or longer) can lead to complete auxiliary system of premature failure. If you want to install confidence and avoid future requirements – service auxiliary drive system with complete VKMA auxiliary kit!
