1 2 3 4 5 6 Ignition switch in the OFF position. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers, 3 screws. Remove the switches for the direction indicators and windscreen wipers. Remove the SID unit and any radio components. Unplug the connectors concerned and the aerial. Remove the heating and ventilation panel and unplug the connector. Remove the cover on the side of the dashboard. Remove the light control panel and connector concerned. 7 Remove the switch for the hazard flashers and connector. Remove other switches and their connectors. Remove the switch panel, 6 screws, fastened with 4 clips. DESCRIPTION Saab Traction Control System (TCS) operates in tandem with appropriate Anti-lock Braking (ABS) system. Saab 9000 series vehicles are equipped with Mark IV ABS. TCS is made up of 2 subsystems: ABS and Electronic Throttle System (ETS). System also incorporates a cruise control function. An additional Automatic Slip Reduction (ASR) system is used on automatic transmission models. TCS uses many components already included in ABS system, including wheel sensors, hydraulic unit and valve block. TCS system consists of 2 different variations, one for manual transmission and one for automatic transmission. See Figs. 1 and 2. 2. Remove accessory drive belt cover. See Fig. 1 . Remove accessory drive belts. 3. Hold crankshaft pulley stationary, and remove crankshaft pulley center bolt. Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove timing belt 4. Turn crankshaft to align crankshaft and camshaft timing notches with marks on rear timing cover and engine block. See Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 . On manual transmission models, remove timing belt guide from top of crankshaft pulley.

1. Open the expansion tank pressure cap to release system pressure. 2. Raise the car. 3. Connect a hose to the system drain plug and drain the coolant into a suitable receptacle. 4. Detach the coolant pipe from the turbocharger. 5. Close the system drain plug and lower the car. 6. Remove the air hose between the air collector casing and the turbocharger intake pipe. 7. Cut the 2 cable ties securing the main engine cables.

Operation of electric motors is controlled by an electromechanical drive system called Top Slack Actuation System (TSAS). TOP SLACK ACTUATION SYSTEM (TSAS) In addition to 6 motors, TSAS system consists of control module, 3 potentiometers, and 7 microswitches. System operates by means of electric motors which are activated by control module, causing top to be raised or lowered.
